Anyone who wants to learn fundamental principles of safe handling of firearms and handgun marksmanship is welcome to attend the class. The class is taught by a team of NRA-certified instructors. Classroom activities include show-and-tell, demonstration, open discussion, and practice with electronic simulators in addition to PowerPoint presentations. Range activities will be done in small groups for safety and\u00a0 effective learning experience. The goal of this class is to provide students, including those who have no or little experience, with deep understanding of principles associated with precision handgun shooting. The class is limited to 20<\/strong> students, and its duration is approximately 12 hours<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Dates and Time<\/h3>\n

Classroom Instruction & Activities:<\/strong> 6:00-10:00 pm on May 19 (Tuesday) and May 21 (Thursday). Every student is expected to attend both evenings.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Live Fire:<\/strong> 9:00 am-1:00 pm on May 23 (Saturday), 2:00-6:00 pm on May 23 (Saturday), or 2:00-6:00 pm on May 24 (Sunday). Each person should select one<\/strong> of the three sessions.<\/p>\n

Enrollment and Fees<\/h3>\n

You may enroll at https:\/\/www.nrainstructors.org\/CourseDetails.aspx?Courseid=856612<\/a>. You will be asked to key in your name, gender, date of birth, address, phone number, and email address. Alternatively, you may send the required information to instructor@srpc.info<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The enrollment fee is $50.00 per person. You may bring cash or a check payable to SR&PC on the first day of the class. For those who are not members or associates of SR&PC, there is an additional charge of $6.00 for a daily use Permit for Lake McMurtry. This fee should be included with the check for the class enrollment fee.<\/p>\n

Course Topics<\/h3>\n

Handguns – <\/strong>semi-auto vs revolver, single action vs double action, loading\/cocking\/decocking\/unloading, failure to eject\/stovepiping, failure to feed, clearing malfunctions<\/p>\n

Ammunition – <\/strong>types of projectiles and their purposes, physics associated with firing<\/p>\n

Safe Handling of Firearms – <\/strong>safety rules, causes of accidents, handling squibs\/misfires\/hangfires<\/p>\n

Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting – <\/strong>eye dominance, shooting positions, gripping, iron sights (sight alignment and sight picture), red dot sights, breath control, hold control, trigger control, follow through<\/p>\n

Selecting Handguns – <\/strong>caliber, design, size, weight, ergonomics and other factors to be considered and their effects on shootability<\/p>\n

Maintaining Handguns<\/strong><\/p>\n

What to Bring to Classroom<\/h3>\n

DO NOT BRING LIVE AMMUNITION INTO THE BUILDING.<\/strong> Each evening when you come to the classroom, please bring the UNLOADED handgun IN EITHER A SOFT OR HARD PISTOL CASE (if you have a safety lock please use it). The handgun will be turned in to an instructor for a safety inspection upon entering the class room. You will be using this handgun for the fundamental drills, dry<\/strong>
\nfiring, and for use of electronic simulators. <\/strong>AGAIN \u201cDO NOT BRING LIVE AMMUNITION INTO THE BUILDING.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

What to Bring to the Range<\/h3>\n

When you come to the range, you must bring a handgun, approximately 100 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection, water, snacks, hat, lawn chair, and whatever else you may need for a few hours of outdoor activities. Instructors will provide guns if you do not own a handgun or want to try different types of handguns.<\/p>\n

Written Test<\/h3>\n

Students will need to take a 50-question written test as soon as the class is over. The passing score is 90%. Exam questions will be discussed in class.<\/p>\n

For levels 1-3, you must fire exactly five rounds per circle and all five bullets must hit the circle aimed at. Five hits on the circle must be consecutive ones. Never fire an additional round to make up for a miss.
